Support Queen Quet's Return to the United Nations!
Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation ( www.QueenQuet.com) was the first Gullah/Geechee in world history to speak on behalf of her people at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. Since 1999, she has represented her people at numerous UN conferences including the Oceans Conference, the Minority Forum, the Indigenous Peoples Forum, and COP22. Due to her continued leadership in regard to human rights and climate change, she has been asked • to return to the United Nations for meetings regarding the human rights issues affecting the Gullah/Geechee • to speak at the Global Climate Action Summit which will bring leaders and people together from around the world to “Take Ambition to the Next Level.” It will be a moment to celebrate the extraordinary achievements of states, regions, cities, companies, investors and citizens with respect to climate action. It will also be a launchpad for deeper worldwide commitments and accelerated action from countries—supported by all sectors of society—that can put the globe on track to prevent dangerous climate change and realize the historic Paris Agreement. and • to visit Thailand where United Nations collaborators are already engaged in forwarding the Paris Agreement. All of these activities will take place between September and December of 2018. The Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition ( www.GullahGeechee.net) is calling on all supporters of Queen Quet and the Gullah/Geechee Nation to financially support the cost of these travels that are part of the "Gullah/Geechee Save the Sea Islands World Tour" that Queen Quet has been on since the beginning of 2018. This annual tour helps to raise awareness and funds for the on-going efforts to keep Gullah/Geechee culture alive and keep Gullah/Geechee people on their land. Sea level rise and other climate changes impacts are compounding the work to protect the Sea Island environment. Yet, Queen Quet is committed to this work daily. Queen Quet has successfully worked against offshore oil drilling and seismic gun use in the Atlantic Ocean and is actively engaged with global partners in reaching the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. On September 25th 2015, countries adopted a set of goals to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all as part of a new sustainable development agenda. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years and the Gullah/Geechee Nation is working to achieve these goals during the International Decade of People of African Descent. With your support, the Gullah/Geechee can insure that we have representation in the major planning and engagement activities to reach these goals and to insure that the Paris Agreement to protect the environment are achieved. So, Tenki Tenki fa hep we send Queen Quet ta de UN one mo 'gain!
